With its popular Festival, Bestival, Level 42 and The Bees, the Isle of Wight has proved that it’s a marquee for producing musical talent.

And the next band to be gaining national praise and recognition are Polar Maps, an indie/rock-and-roll three-piece, whom last month, released their debut single and accompanying music video, ‘Stay Here With Me’.

The track itself is immediately catchy. Both the music and lyrics are not over-complicated, yet executed perfectly together for easy, chilled-out listening. I wouldn’t consider it an insult to compare the sound of the band’s vocalist, Guy Page, to Fun. frontman, Nate Ruess.

It’s not hard to imagine this track being popular in an intimate music bar, with 200-300 loyal fans singing along. Saying that, it’s also doesn’t feel like the single would be out of place closing a festival set in front of tens of thousands singing in unison. And I personally don’t think that’s out of their reach.

Polar Maps are currently writing and recording the rest of the tracks for their debut EP, and if you take ‘Stay Here With Me’ as calling card for what the guys can produce, there’s a lot of promise for their potential success.

If you find yourself down south, it’s probably worth checking out their Facebook page to see whether they’re playing at a nearby venue – you’ll be in for a good night out!

Musically Fresh have scheduled an interview with the Island lads, which will be up on the site soon.
