When four guys get together with the hopes of becoming the next big band, landing on a genre can often be the first call for arguments discussion.

The problem is, one guy can enjoy so many genres respectively. “Band Member A” loves Punk, Pop-Punk and Rock, whilst “Band Member B” enjoys Funk, Reggae and Ska – you add more band members, you add more taste, you add more controversy.

Unless you can capitalise on this.

And that is exactly what Yorkshire-based four-piece band, Inlaze, have been able to achieve – seemingly with ease.  On their official Facebook page, they state that their, ‘sound is somewhat similar to the early 90’s Grunge movement, mixed with a variety of different genres from the past 50 years, resulting in a passionate glaze of fuzz and emotion’. It’s an accurate description, especially regarding today’s reviewed track, ‘Another One’, but I wouldn’t use the word ‘fuzz’. Because listening to their back-catalogue on Soundclound, there is definitely recognisable a mix of influences – but it does not come across as an unclear “fuzz” – instead, a well-executed blend.

‘Another One’

I’m currently listening to this track in the blazing sun, eyes darting around, people watching on the beach (in a non-pervy way) – and I think that this is such a fitting soundtrack to my day.

They’ll never be another one…’ – it’s a simple message. Does it make me think of times gone by and the people that went with them? Sure. But it also paints a smile on my face. Inlaze have produced something that is easy – no, wrong word – pleasurable listening for anyone, but is something that is by no means “generic”.

The track’s lead guitar throughout evokes emotions and memories of listening to a classic 90’s Pop-Rock anthem, like those released by Counting Crows, or the often forgotten, Gigolo Aunts. That is until the outro kicks in. The outro is loud, fast, electric, and a climactic way to end the track – providing shades of more 00’s bands like Snow Patrol, Stereophonics or Biffy Clyro.

In fact, I’ve seen all those bands live and I can no doubt say that I do believe this is a single that deserves the lights, stage and live crowd of a festival. It’s an image that comes all too easily to the mind when hearing this song.

And the almost unforced melodic and echoed vocals of Cauley Pritchard adds to the 90’s feel of Grunge – think of a toned down Layne Staley from Alice in Chains – and both the instrumentals and vocals complement each other to achieve the aforementioned ‘well-executed blend’.

Overall, listening to the band’s other works; there is something familiar with their sound – like you’ve heard their songs before – but with a certain distinction that bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Stereophonics pull off so well.

The lads have promised an EP by the end of the year and I can safely say that Musically Fresh will be straight on it.

And you can follow the progress of said EP by following the lads on their social media pages;
