‘Say a prayer for Lady Luck and turn the goddamn volume up’

Bottle Breakers are a Punk-fuelled Rock ‘n’ Roll band from Kansas City, Missouri. I first found them in the depths of one of Facebook’s many Punk-Rock music groups where their sound struck a chord… in fact, it struck three or four of them.

Influences:The Clash, Chuck Berry, The Adolescents, AC/DC, Descendents, Social Distortion

The band have recently released their debut EP/Mini Album, Weigh Anchor. Seven tracks of Punk-infused bluesy Rock ‘n’ Roll that’s impossible to sit or stand still too. Initially released back in 2014 with just four tracks, Weigh Anchor has been re-recorded, supplemented and reFRESHed a year later, so let’s do this.

With an accompanying music video which you may find at the bottom – if, you keep reading – ‘Broken Boulevard’ was the first I heard from the band and a good introduction to their sound.

Like the above, ‘Sailor’s Grave’ is another re-record and another feel good track with a bouncy Blues-Rock appeal. ‘3rd Degree’, on the other hand, is your Punk-Rock song with a solo that is quite frankly guitar-porn. For both, think Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell era Social D.

‘New Tattoo’ is a jagged bluesy number, not the best on the release, but certainly by no means a bad track, every great release has some “good tracks” after all.

‘Slam Radio’, again, a re-recording is once more leaning towards the band’s Punkier side with an infectious chorus and classic chug on the guitar to match. ‘Drink Motherfucker Drink’ speeds things up once more. Now, if this doesn’t become one of your drinking songs immediately, then find some alcohol, chug it down and play this loud.

Play, chug and repeat.

‘Wolves’ is the final track and a more mellow one for the most part but still carrying some excellent Rock ‘n’ Roll guitar work. 4:40 sees the end of the track… For the time being anyway, as there’s a short Blues track at 7:14 that wouldn’t be out of place around a camp-fire, with just 35 bucks and a six-pack to your name. A nice way to play you out.
