A little while ago we received a request from a fan to take look at Exeter based Hip-Hop artist, Louis J Walker.

Very much an upstart in the UK underground Hip-Hop scene, Mr. Walker’s music floats between a more “Classic” Hip-Hop sound, a slower more Spoken Word infusion and UK Grime.

There are enough differences between his work stop the repetition you often find in a lot of Hip-Hop, but at the same time enough similarities exist that the whole project is cohesive and welcoming.

The above is a more recent track. A track that will soon be an oldie so to speak, as something you can’t help but respect is Louis J Walker’s dedication to his craft. There’s no major label or indie label helping him or downright doing it for him, it’s from the heart.

There’s always something new on SoundCloud and his Facebook presence is strong enough. New tracks surface regularly, which if anything entices fans of his music, as a new angle could easily drop unexpectedly.

Lyrically, it’s actually interesting, there’s none of that sexist, misogynistic or even racist content. L J Walker’s lyrics have actually been put together via thought process, rather than a attempt to be “gangsta”. ‘Can’t Change’ was a number that stuck out for me.

Some tracks have a more Rn’B set of melodies to them will others more Electronic Music based when it comes to Mr. Walkers backing track, ‘Lost In Legacy’, ‘The World’ are good examples but despite the brief genre-crosses, the coherence isn’t lost.

I’ll leave you one more to mull over and then when you have mulled it enough, the links below will help you discover far much more from another strong facet of the UK underground music scene.
