There is obvious merit in bands and recording artists publicising their art through what ever means and whenever possible, it’s the oldest given in the book but in many cases, is it really the way to go?

The past has seen bands such as Fugazi creating no licensed merchandise bar their records and charging little for admittance to their shows. Further back you saw The Clash on their first US tour cut ticket prices, losing money in process. Sometimes less is more and in the world of Political and Punk-minded music this can be advantageous. Enter, Vii Snakes.

The band have a limited online presence outside of personal profiles and only really operate via Instagram and their Youtube Channel. The band will be releasing their debut EP, Post-Truth Youth in May but for now, their first single gives us plenty to ponder.

The band’s Hardcore Punk charged political Post-Hardcore immediately reminds you of latter day Refused but also boasts a versatility that could see them playing alongside contemporary bruisers such as Comeback Kid. Lyrically, the conviction, intelligence and clarity of a tortured but committed criticism is felt band-wide and not just via vocalist Luke Besant’s visceral screams and sharply contrasting clean vocals.

The band’s press-kit is actually one of the better I have come across and I found myself reading it for enjoyment more then just for my “job”. Taking influence and adoration from names as far flung as Morrissey, George Orwell, Itch of The King Blues, Zack De La Rocha and MF staples Riskee And The Ridicule this track isn’t easy listening and it seems the EP will also be far from it.

‘A Priceless Truth’ tackles the demoralisation many are not so aware of, the exploitation of the working classes and a system that depends on nepotism to control the natural human desire to progress. The desire for a better life but by the standards of a pre-determined order that only follows it’s own system of meritocracy to decide the happiness of the people.

‘False witness of the depth of destruction, falls witness to the distant dystopia […]’

‘[…] Just know these screens are making you blind’

If political Punk, its diversifications and outspoken music in general soothes the effects of the dilapidating, menial and draining modern societal life we sadly inhabit, the this elusive and sonically abrasive three-piece require your attention.
