Gold Phoenix At A Glance…
Another band found in the depths of our overflowing inbox, Gold Phoenix hail from Surrey and play Rock n’ Roll. To be more specific, this is a band that yearn for the sounds of the legends so influential. The likes of ACDC and Eagles Of Death Metal are notable influences with the gritty Garage Rock of the 60’s and Blues-Rock both dirty and not so not far behind.
To date the band have their either eponymously titled EP or EP actually titled EP from 2014, alongside the singles, ‘Oh So Hard’ (2016) and the most recent single, ‘Lotion’. EP is full of the aforementioned dirty-Blues, filthy reverb and Garage-grit but with enough melody and clean cut production that it is really quite the listening experience.
But why? Well despite the obvious pleasure gotten by listeners when something new and exciting surfaces sometimes you just have to go back to basics and comfortability, to do something well rather than break new ground and that is where this three-piece sit, very well in fact.
Another great and well-played ploy by this band is how easily they can move away from playful Garage Rock onward to the doom and gloom of riffy-Hard Rock and groove laden foreboding Stoner Rock. The band’s applicability and transition towards these heavier styles is seamless and with ‘Oh So Hard’ this is well-achieved but not without an unexpected but welcome Indie Rock flare.
And now we come to sounds most recent, ‘Lotion’. Laden with ACDC-esque riffs and pop-hooked Garage Rock the band will make you laugh, convulse and then likely laugh again even before you see the video.
