Introducing Shorts Weather…
Shorts Weather – Plymouth, England, United Kingdom.
Containing members of Plymouth Punk-Rock band Super Secret Club – who you can find on bandcamp, HERE – Shorts Weather are a two-piece band pining for heavier climes where the riffs are plentiful as they cut through thick fog that fights back against the cumbersome singular axe and its (maybe) human-skinned drum-kit. In fact, if given a visual locale in representation, it would probably look exactly like the image above..
But the music, oh the music. Well, the band list their influences as Converge, The Chariot and Will Haven with tags such as Hardcore and Post-Metal both attached alongside. To date the band have but the single ‘Áine’ to their name ahead of the release of their debut EP Old Gods which is set for sometime this year. The band are still in the midst (or maybe mist) of recording with three tracks including this set in stone but we will have to wait for those.
For now we have ‘Áine’ with its crushing Hardcore and Metalcore Converge-esque chaos compressed into a short but biting 1:16. The melodic guitar lines are warped but clean even after the ensuing distortion. Classic Punk/Hardcore rhythms are also present with the whole Post-Metal (un)gloss for this track at least a feint influence but still one crucial.
The track stands well standalone but with the words “Post-Metal” so carelessly dropped and the ensuing gloom of this debut song, you can’t help but wonder what the band have up their many layered sleeves. ‘Áine’ is strong enough on its own but also could well be telling of what the band may hide between long instrumentals and slow tempos as a sudden surprise…
