A good friend of mine is in a band. A Hardcore/(dirty) D-Beat band. And he showed me this. We hope to get them on MF soon enough, but back to the current band in question – and pool cues at the ready – this is Bar Fight.
As fussy as I am with the more modern, NYC-style Hardcore (personally, I stick to old-school and bands that play as such), Bar Fight hit the right notes. This vein of Hardcore has a certain groove to it; a groove that can produce erratic flails as much as it can the most rhythmic head-banging you never knew you were capable of.
Bar fight are relatively new to the Hardcore game, and with their debut EP (released back on the 22nd June of this year), they clearly mean business.
Boozey business.
With vocals that resemble that of Agnostic Front‘s Roger Miret and riffs that personally recall to me the earlier recordings of Thrashcore era Refused, the band’s own citations include the likes of:
‘Trapped Under Ice, Wolf Down, Backtrack, Terror, Rotting Out, Stick To Your Guns, Turnstile […] as well as General Punk and Hardcore’
You don’t need to hear me rattle on about the nitty gritties of each track this time around as Bar Fight’s brand of Metallic Hardcore Punk speaks for itself. Both tracks clocking in under two minutes means they aren’t around for long – true to the Hardcore style – however, you are left hitting play repeatedly.
In short, I want to hear the rest. I know you have more to offer Bar Fight, and I’m leaning on this Bar, half-cut, stewing… Waiting for more. My far-from-funny remarks aside, this is a promising start gents, do carry on.
The band have a live performance coming up on October 10th at the Gryphon in Bristol, UK. The bill has a cracking line up showcasing a strong set of UK Hardcore, headlined by Tempers Fray with support from Dogfight, Back Down and more. Sadly, I won’t be in the country, but, don’t let that put you off, you should definitely still go.
