We’re back in Vancouver today for an exclusive UK premiere of a new track from ethereal Indie Folk band, Goodwood Atoms. The new single ‘Matter’ was released today via Business Class Records after the band won first place in last year’s Nimbus Recording Competition Finals, the prize – a radio-ready single produced by Shawn Cole (Bend Sinister, Yukon Blonde).
The single itself veers towards the electronic end of the band’s musical spectrum, present in all their music, but retains a calming Indie aura throughout, reminiscent of Indie Rock bands like Copeland or Local Natives.
In an interview with the band, they provided us their own story on how the song came together:
‘The foundation of the song came together in a very natural, organic way during a jam, starting with Dawson’s fingerpicked guitar line and Justin’s breakbeat. From there we spent a lot of time finding ways to make the arrangement really rich and sonically diverse. Lyrically, the song has a kind of existential theme. It’s about the search for meaning in life, and how we sometimes look for it in the wrong places.’
