BarCreeps and The ‘Battle Axe’ EP.

BarCreeps – London, England, United Kingdom.

To London now for another band recently signed to growing Punk label Disconnect Disconnect Records, BarCreeps.

When you are met with the deceptively playful and layered intro of the eponymous first track of this release you expect Post-Hardcore. Now, you get this in a fashion but you also receive enough of a raw Hardcore sound and periodical melodic vocal overlays that you are actually quite content across the board.

The band fall into a more melodic variant of the itself variety-laden Punk sound to close this first blast before you get more of the same but “turned up to eleven” in the classically short, ‘Guns Out’.

This is a Punk-Rock release that keeps you guessing. After the Hardcore and Post-Hardcore of the previous, you are treated and at that oddly to a very classic upbeat Punk track completed with contemporary guitar melodies that are prominent for the fun of it.

With ‘Trolls’ a far more classic Skate Punk angle is taken for the most part and by now you are finding it very hard to believe this is the same band and in-fact the only way you are sure is because you yourself pressed play in the first place.

BarCreeps aren’t taking this particularly seriously and neither should you. The ending of ‘Trolls’ is as unexpected as it is expected as by this point you couldn’t care less. Battle Axe has you hook, line and bizarre sinker and that’s the way of it.

One thing you can say though is that the skill at arms is on point and very well executed. The band may be “pissing around” somewhat (a lot) but their musicianship cannot be faulted. ‘Like You Better’ carries notes of vintage Millencolin with its brash classic Pop-Punk git and closes a five track Punk EP that you should really experience.
