wych elm are a (now) four-piece from Bristol and the latest to be snapped but my emerging local label Quit Yr Job Records as they very much quest around Bristol and Bath digging-up the best in underground Alternative music and with the dreary (wait for it) but alluring sound of wych elm, they have certainly “done a good”.
‘School Shooter’ is dark, melodic and well written with vocals completely symbiotic with the crooning Indie-esque guitar work. This is Indie Rock that has been spending a considerable amount of its down-time with Grunge and filtered any of the genres classic touches through the distorted mind-set of the latter.
The Low-Fi tone of wych elm is very much their calling card. Tones of FIDLAR can be heard as ‘Bag Of Worms’ especially slowly examines and takes notes on Garage Rock instead of the thin weightless and majoritively boring classic upbeat Indie string work we were bored with ten years ago.
And whats even better is that the band have recently added a second guitar to the mix, so you are going to have trust me a little further when I say that is firmly a positive.
The band’s debut double A-side single will be released via Quit Yr Job Records on the 16th September on Cassette Tape, Digital Download and for streaming.
