The Exeter based Losing Victory are the product of a love for riff-laden Hard Rock and “classic” Metal, strong melodies and the moodiness in world left behind by Grunge and its distorted gloom. The previous sentence is a compliment. Promise.

Formed in 2013 the band have one EP to date and cite the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Foo Fighters and Nirvana as their primary influences.

The new single ‘Break’ boasts Losing Victory’s penchant for Alternative Rock with a hefty dose of gloomy attitude, that is enough for that Heavy Metal “problem child” of the family. The dark melodic intro sets the mood quickly before it falls further to anger with a classic 80s Metal chug that constitutes the majority of the tracks foundation.

Lyrically it’s typical “break out from the constraints of the peers and elders” angst but holds well enough. Vocally, Kate Martin employs enough emotion and aggression to carry the song home, but not without the instrumentation that seems to come into itself more in actuality and aesthetically as the song progresses.

The classic Metal foundation on the band’s music is very particular but far enough from cliche and versatile enough that the Grunge and Alternative Rock influences shine through as the main highlight. That said, the guitar solo in ‘Break’ is as fresh as it is classic and carries us home after the walls have crumbled from their repeated battering.
