The St. Helens bluesy/punky/grungy duo are back with another EP that is just about containing and keeping at bay five tracks of socio-political and societally reflective underground Rock that doing its utmost to borrow from the best of the genres above in the most natural way possible.

Now I won’t keep you for long but to pass this release off in a simple three lines would be an utter dis-service. ‘In The Name Of The King’ is enveloped in Blues-Rock reverb and political punch. Damned Implant’s approach is not for the feint-hearted in regard to their lyrical content and in all honesty neither is the choice of instrumental expression but I challenge anyone not to rhythmically gyrate to this haunting EP opener.

‘New Musical Cafe’ is warped, wonderful and very much classic Damned Implant via its – obvious – Blues infected Hard Rock rumble while ‘Pulling Teeth’ brings forth the foreboding, haunting tone once more. ‘Pulling Teeth’ channels the high-points of more obvious aggression displayed on #DirtRock upping the ante as this second effort EP progresses.

Damned Implant are band who deserve a listen, not just in general but within their lyrical content. They are indeed adept and providing enough groove to get a 70’s disco moving but what is perhaps more important is the example and identity they present as a unit. These are frustrating times and it isn’t to the mainstream to which we should look to find sense, for with great groove, comes great societal analysis.

With the jagged Stoner Rock of the majority of ‘Rise Up’ Damned Implant add credit to the “mighty two piece “moniker given to so many bands in this vein, an easy term but an unambiguously true one in reference to DI. With ‘Rise Up’ ending the way it does through a brief but incredibly satisfying charge of Punk-Rock, the closing fuzz of ‘The Man’ makes perfect sense.

‘The Man’ with the way the EP has been going is exactly what you would think it to be, a cathartic Punk-Rock release. Don’t buy into that masterplan, blast ‘The Man’ and start your own masterplan that is almost certainly not ideal for or in anyway involved with “the man”.
