Well, they told me… I best get that will written.

As I’m destined for death, it seems I must get on with it.

Tirade, a Pop-Punk-infused Alternative Rock band from Manchester in Northern England. Much of the current wave of UK Pop-Punk has a “Rocky” feel to it – and that’s great – but Tirade weren’t happy, so they’ve driven their sound further along the road.

Taking influence from the likes of Don Broco, Lower Than Atlantis and Press To Meco, the band have concocted a riff-laden sound, supplemented with occasional Pop-Punk rhythms and, vocally, have installed a strong influence from the genre. The debut was released back in April, and after coming across the band’s own, Alex Young, in Facebook’s UK Pop Punk community (Click Here), a review was born.

‘Waste Your Time’ breaks you in with its chunky riffage. Writhing tempo changes and jagged input from the instruments, with a melodic set of vocals. Now, there’s nothing wrong with the song as such, I just couldn’t get on with it as well compared with the others. However, that said, it prepares you for the rest of the EP by giving a level example of Tirade’s sound.

One thing I love about the band is that the break-downs aren’t “Easycore”-based, and the vocals aren’t in the common, “Post-Tom Delonge” style, there’s a significantly more substance within their sound. ‘Dead Again’ is a true redeemer, and plods along nicely when it isn’t soaring with it’s chorus.

Something, something, ‘Double Vodka Lemon Lime!

‘Nothing To Say’ showcases some almost Funk-like riffage to begin with, then later chips in with some of Tirade’s standout Pop-Punk-isms, which I confess, I desperately was waiting for. Despite the stronger elements of their sound being the heavier, when it comes to the Alternative Rock sections, the quick bursts of energy really suits them.

‘Stand up! We’re stepping off of the fence, Level up a little ignorance, Demystify yourself and lose the trance, I’m Done! Not gonna bail you out Kick about a little, scream and shout Desist and understand this is your chance !’

‘Milestones’ is probably the best on the release. Why, you ask? Well, I’ll say a few words, because I suggest you go have a gander yourself, because I’m a dick like that. Don’t worry, relevant links will be provided.

Few words: Melodies, darker, harder, suits them, should have more of, tight.

Closing the EP, the fifth track is ’91’. This has a refreshingly chunky riff to it and some decent chugging in the verses that should get most doing “Ye Olde Head Nod”. The track acts as a good wind-down after the strength from middle of the EP. The faster, choppy outro and gang chants are definitely a highlight.

Overall? A good release. Stronger in the centre, particularly in the faster sections, and the darker/heavier melodies that Tirade pull off never feel “too much”. It all just leaves you in want of more. Harder edged vocals could arguably add something, but then again that’s simply my own subjective taste, but, they’ve certainly the riffs for it.

The band are definitely doing nothing wrong and I look forward to the next release. So, if you like your Pop-Punk on the rocky-side or your Alt. Rock on the upbeat energetic side, this band should warrant your attention. Find all you need via the following links:
