Tío Rico are set to be releasing their Orwellian new single ‘Newspeak’ this coming September with artwork to match and a very apt title, or am I just spouting “fake news”?

Possibly, but I’ve started now. The Horn & Hoof Records staples have been kind enough to allow Musically Fresh a first look at the new single, itself the first look from their follow up to 2017’s Business and Pleasure, entitled Suck It.

The band’s mid-tempo, heavy-Punk-Rock sound combines the weight of 80’s Hardcore, the playful British Punk attitude and vocals of the first wave of spikey-pogo-jumpers and an overall penchant for 90’s Grunge with an onset and clear appreciation of a discordant Post-Hardcore guitar-tone. This leaves Tío Rico standing as the different band on the Punk bill and the Punk band on Rock bill. Make sense? Good.

The band’s Post-Hardcore discordance it out in force in ‘Newspeak’ and it’s a track that wastes no time. Grunge rhythms pound along to a bass tuned for Hardcore Punk but living with one foot in the Post-Hardcore 80’s. Vocally, the best way to describe the disinterested yet angry tone would perhaps be a British Kurt Cobain if he had grown up somewhere near Manchester.

‘Newspeak’ is a short and snappy Punk track that isn’t what you expect, it channels the tempo and rage you’d come to look for in a track with that tuning and cathartically expresses it in away that perfectly captures the point between two of the biggest Punk-off shoots of the crucial 80’s and 90’s.

Suck It is going to interesting.
