Lily Allen Announces First Headline Show for 4 Years

Lilly Allen

In 2010, she announced she was taking a break from music. Now, four years later, it seems Lily Allen is ready to take centre stage once more, as she’s announced she will play her first headline gig for four years.

In 2006, Lily tore the opinions of music fans with the release of debut album, Alright, Still. Although singles like ‘LDN’ and ‘Smile’ gained international success in terms of sales, many people struggled to look past the fact a white girl with rich, famous parents, was attempting to channel hip-hop, reggae and Jamaican ska, through what was predominantly pop music.  To this day, most people just consider the album to be alright, still. Nonetheless, Allen strived on, and in 2010, she penned the album, It’s Not Me, It’s You (this time adopting a more country/jazz sound). This lead to her topping the UK album charts for the first time, her second UK No. 1 single with ‘The Fear’, and two singles to reach platinum sales.

The album was a critical success, and that year, she was recognised for her songwriting talents when she won three Ivor Novello Awards.

And after all that accomplishment, Allen got preggers and decided to spend a few years out of the spotlight, and focus on raising her young family. Although, in 2011, she opted to keep out of the spotlight by starring in the documentary, Lily Allen: From Riches to Rags, which followed her embarrassing and forgettable attempt to be a shop assistant.

At the end of 2013, after a three year hiatus from music, Allen gained another UK No. 1 with her cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’. In the same week, she released her response to Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’, and theme for all feminists, ‘Hard Out Here’, which again, gained positive reviews from critics as it attacked the sexist attitudes towards women in the entertainment industry.

This was first single to be released from her latest album, Sheezus, which is set for release on the 5th of May. And I don’t think predicting it to be an instant No. 1 is a bad shout.

And now, Allen has announced she will headline her first show since 2010, on Monday the 28th April, at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Allen appears to have followed up the promise of her success in 2010, and it’s clearly from her recent TV appearances and honest lyrics, that her attitudes have matured since raising a family. She’s definitely a leading role model for aspiring young female artists everywhere.

Tickets for Lily’s headline show go on sale this Friday, April 4, whilst her new single ‘Our Time’ is currently available for download.
