Marmite effect? Definitely Not! – Marmozets, ‘The Weird and Wonderful’ in Observation

Every now and then a band encapsulates a moment in time. The music can imprint itself onto your being whether it be through rage, misery or elation. It’s been a while since I first heard Marmozets, but I can still feel that elevation when listening. The band have got whatever “it” is and I promise you will want to see it.

So then, let’s have a look at the history;

Marmozets are a band from “T’up North” that spent time boiling in their respective Metal/Hardcore scene, and at some point or another they captured the eye of Venn Records. It’s pretty clear what that means to us at MF. With Venn, they released their Good Days EP, a gnarly burst of aggression that demonstrates their love for carnage.

Somewhere further down the line, they caught the attention of Roadrunner Records (Slipknot, The Devil Wears Prada, The Used) and have been on the rise ever since. Their first LP, The Weird and Wonderful,  showed an immensely strong effort at tying in their Hardcore ideals with immaculately grooving hooks. Ever since, they have been tearing up and touring the globe, and if the rumours are to be believed, they are killing it.

Anyhow, shall we have a look at some of the highlights from their wondrous debut LP? I think we should. No, not ‘should’. Must.

Born Young And Free – There are album openers, and there are album openers.  Album opener ‘Born Young And Free’ perfectly encapsulates Marmozets. Whether it’s the brightly spangled riffage, the entrancing chorus or the brutal breakdown sections, this song will hook you. It’s the track that first truly caught my attention and has a video of pure class as well.

Take a look if you’re feeling cheeky.

Why Do You Hate Me –

‘Take my money!!!  Take my heart and soul!!! ‘WHY DO YOU HATE ME!?!’

Someone has pissed vocalist Becca MacIntyre off royally. By God do those vocals get that message across. At times, this track may well make you cough and splutter ‘Paramore‘, but I know you are better than that. Marmozets hold their own with this blast of punchy Pop-Punk so well, that you will forgive them. And I bloody well won’t blame you.

Vibetech –

HOLY  SHIT.

RIFF, RIFF, RIFF.

SPEED. ADRENALINE.

TIME SIGNATURE CHAOS.

GO. NOW.

Hit The Wave –

This song gives me the feels. It’s the artful way in the which the music has been artistically crafted to give the impression of a wave hitting, as the chorus snaps with, ‘Hit the wave!!! The emotions tumbled over me and left me gasping for air. I fell intoxicated as it’s water filled my lungs. Check it. You won’t regret it.

And these tracks are just a taster of this incredible LP,

Marmozets have got something special. They are drenched in creative integrity, taking just enough of each of their sporadic influences, whilst holding their hooks firmly in hand. Their live shows are tearing up the planet as we speak. Don’t miss them and regret it. They’ve got “IT”.

Don’t forget to check the Marmozets through their Facebook and Twitter pages, Official Website and over at Venn Records.

The band’s music is available from the Venn Records website, as well as Amazon and iTunes.
