We’ve been trying to get back in touch with Pop-Punk on MF and in particular, the more contemporary sound. Although we have had plenty in the past, all the recent Pop-Punk focus has been on the more old-school styled sound, that is coincidently also gaining ground.

Enter Canadian five-piece, Calling All Captains.

The band’s sound effortlessly pulls off the bittersweet melodies and heartfelt lyrics of the post-New Found Glory generation via a four track EP and a handful of tracks on bandcamp, links to which will follow shortly, so rest easy.

Based on the number of fans on their Facebook page, the band are clearly are doing something right. With a sound that carries an echo of the third-wave of Pop-Punk from the late 90’s and early 2000’s,  but supplemented with a more contemporary twist, this snippet from their bio isn’t surprising:

‘We grew up listening to bands like Blink-182, New Found Glory, Sum 41, All Time Low, and The Wonder Years. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here, we just want to keep it rolling forward.’

Also citing big players such as, Knuckle Puck, Real Friends, Seaway and The Story So Far, Calling All Captains are very much typical but at the same time aren’t over-doing it and are hard to fault.

Whether you are all about bands such as New Found Glory, something of a die-hard fan of The Wonder Years or others amongst the current big players, this Canadian bunch are on the up, don’t miss out.
