Fresh Riffs: Our New Writer IC, And A Window To Whats Important…
(Editors Note – We’ve branched with our new writer. IC is American and currently living in Boston Massachusetts. Here a few words about his musical journey so far.

Having bounced from the state of New York, then to Connecticut and now Massachusetts, and being the son of an artist and a “summer-of-love” hippie, I’ve had the good fortune of being saturated in culture relentlessly since I was very young.
The drastic change in lifestyle moving from here to there and back again, proved influential to my tastes in music and a burgeoning interest in literature, that often found intersects as I began to take on writing my own music.
I found interest in musicians such as Crosby, Stills and Nash, and predominantly The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The attraction to bluesy, heavy, and hypnotic sounds brought me into taste within Punk-Rock but ultimately sparked an ongoing love of Heavy Metal and nearly all of it’s winding and minutely specified sub-genres. Favourite artists off the top of my head include Agalloch, Suicidal Tendencies, Wolves In The Throne Room, Death, Leviathan, and Brutal Truth.
As of recent, a return to my musical roots via my father has had me spinning artists including The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, even The Counting Crows. The former two having sparked a love and interest in Folk music, that’s had me addicted to the works of Mark Kozelek and Current 93.
At middle school age in Connecticut I had a peaked interest in guitar, that had led me to owning my first electric guitar, an Ibanez which had stuck with me for a few years between jamming positively horrible music through high school, which never saw shows or recordings.
Something about the instrument had me in a bad way, due to having been born with poor coordination skills that I still struggle with to this day.
Pairing that with monstrously large hands and meaty fingers, my younger self had a rice paper patience that broke as I developed an interest in singing, that I seemed to have taken to more naturally. After graduating, I picked up an electric bass for the first time properly and filled in for a Deathcore band for a handful of shows, before heading off to my first year of university.
A couple rough steps in learning how to organise shows and two years later I ended up booking shows fairly regularly within the scope of Metal and Hardcore, with the occasional underground Hip-Hop.
The rest is for us to explore together.
