Northumberland Metallers Guardian were relatively quiet for a while and hard at work but then, they awoke heavier than ever. Our guest writer DJ Awesome Wells, was impressed by their first EP way back when, a review of which you can find above.
For those newer to the band, comparisons to As I lay Dying and Parkway Drive were made and strong and driven Metalcore compositions dominated the band’s sound, but that was then and this is now.
‘Capitalism’ was released back in May and gave us a taster of a newer edge.
‘Innovate’ however, takes it one step further. The strong riffage is relentless, shredded before you even have time to think, providing no respite during the guaranteed and certainly aggressive simultaneous head-banging.
Leaning more towards a Deathcore level of aggression, but with enough let-up in the temp to crack down classic but well placed crushing riffage, a Tech-Metal edge glides over much of the track and quite frankly it’s fucking brutal.
Credit where it’s due to Dark North Media for the production of the video.
The band also have new album due to drop on 22nd January 2016, entitled Revolution. Which is very exciting in itself because if you’ve been keeping track of the band’s Facebook posts, and lyrical content of this newer material, they have developed a political streak.
With global and UK politics the way it is, politicisation in the Alternative music scenes is on the rise. Both Punk and Metal bands, and many more are voicing distaste and that’s quite frankly fantastic.
