We’ve got some good ol’ fashioned, honest Rock n’ Roll making waves across from the far reaches of Europe in Kemi, Finland, with Slap Betty.
The four-piece formed in 2007 and are keeping the Rock alive by spreading it worldwide with riff heavy tunes, gravely vocals with a bouncy tempo plus some face-melting solo’s for flavouring.
In regard to their sound, Motorhead are a clear influence, as their more Rock n’ Roll and Punk-Rock side come through strongly in Slap Betty’s repertoire and with the new album, Nothing Out Of Nothing, their sound is even more refined and exactly where it wants to be.
Lyrically the Nothing Out Of Nothing tackles issues from across the spectrum, educating us in politics and showing disaffection but also tackling issues closer to home such as personal relationships and self-doubt.
It has a track for every listener, whether you prefer something heavy and or rather something equally melodic. The band have released two singles from the album so far, ‘World We Leave Behind’, with it’s mid-tempo Finnish stamped Melodic Punk-Rock and socio-political lyrics and then the more classic Rock n’ Roll of ‘List Of Thing’s I Hate’.
If you dig the Guns N’ Roses classic, Appetite For Destruction, then Slap Betty’s effort will paint the walls with your brains! That’s a good thing, trust us on that one.
(Editor’s Note – Great imagery as ever Jay and no real consideration for anyone that has freshly painted their walls.
– MS.)
Seeing chart success with their debut album, 94720, this effort is the next in-line, already striking bigger and harder, again and again, while the iron is still hot. I look forward to seeing these Finnish “rock n’ rollaz” hit it off here in the UK in the future.
