Pardon Us are another band from Liverpool, another band worth a perusal and another band specifically worth a perusal because they are a part of the Some Kind Of Events all-dayer this coming May.

The band are now in their forth year of a daring mission to create their own rendition of upbeat yet gruff and melodic Punk-Rock that ties itself as much to Pop-Punk melody as it does a strong Punk/Leftist ethos, itself delivered through upbeat means to ease the bleak outlook through to the sets of the ears attached to the masses and their little heads, or big heads for that matter – it takes all-sorts to make a world.

In all seriousness, Punk-Rock doesn’t have to be hard, cathartic, angsty, angry, rage filled, “fist-in-the-air” worthy all the time, at least in an obvious sense that is, as the same points can be portrayed any number of ways, which where Pardon Us come in.

‘Sold! To the young man with no future
To the young man getting older
Sign your lie away, and pray that we don’t sink together
So, you sold yourself on down the river
Enslaved to the never never
Well don’t look now – we’re heading into nasty weather
And we’ll settle for any port in a storm’

In many ways the band are reminiscent of The Clash with the upbeat melodies over jagged tin-like guitars and light but frantic and precise drumming. The band aren’t afraid of a poppy-chorus either, again very much in the vein of such legends. However, the most notable in this comparison is the simple honest delivery which is nigh-on impossible to criticise.

But the band can do fast and contemporary and in the raspy up-tempo buzzsaw guitar-ed British Punk classic ‘Flightless’, the band manage this wholly and with a sprinkling of So-Cal household names Face To Face just because.

Of course most of these examples are from the band’s latest release but I have to say their back catalogue is just as impressive and with their date at this up and coming all-dayer and for Rebellion Festival in August (see you there), they are set for great things and are another example of the strength of the UK underground music scene.
