A Cereal Killer – The ‘Why So Cererous?’ Demo EP.

A Cereal Killer – Straubing, Germany.

A band simply earning solid points for their name off the bat, A Cereal Killer are a classically toned Pop-Punk and Skate Punk influenced band from Straubing, Germany who earlier this year chose to release their debit live demo to the world.

From the very first moments you cant help but hear notes of vintage Strung Out crossed with Alkaline Trio in the rough-cut but addictive ‘Going By’ that albeit it only slightly but still notable, sounds akin to fellow country-men and shredding Skate Punkers Straightline.

Now as this is both a Demo EP and a live one, recording clarity and volume levels need to be largely ignored when looking at the flow of the release as a whole as we take A Cereal Killer at their most bare. ‘How It Is’ glides by in 90’s Pop-Punk fashion while ‘Fagin Beat The Boys’ takes this formula and in the process ruffles the edges into something easily comparable the Cali-Punk of the 90’s greats in their early years.

‘Friday The 13th’ channels Face To Face proving further than the band really have done their homework. A Cereal Killer have shown us thus far that they can do pace, flowing melodic Skate Punk guitar-lines and the like but in tracks such as ‘Friday The 13th’ they show their appreciation of a time where Pop-Punk was still drawing from those early days in the late 70’s and its really done quite well.

Again as much as in some of these demo tracks it is indeed hard to hear the band entirely, tracks such as ‘Change’ do at least show an audible energy to A Cereal Killer, an energy that is seen further in the melodic and anthemic Skate Punk of ‘Just Do It’ as it flows in-trend with some of the best in the contemporary European melodic Punk scene.

In truth, there isn’t much more I can say about this release. A Cereal Killer are a band going somewhere one bowl of homicidal cornflakes at a time, they have done their homework, they are playing what they love and they are another band in the growing European Punk and Pop-Punk music scene.

Keep an eye out.
