Introducing: Driftt.
Driftt – Warminster, England, United Kingdom.
Many people will wonder why this Warminster band have an extra ‘t’ in their name. Others will notice how young the band is or how their social media presence is vague and in it’s infancy and then how little of a back-catalogue the band have.
These are the thoughts that often deter a certain kind of music fan and limit them from ever out-reaching their complacency. Now this, in the case of Driftt, would be serious mistake.
Little can be taken from their Facebook profile that is true but upon discovering their two tracks to date, via bandcamp, SoundCloud or their Youtube Channel, none of the above should realistically bother you. Except the ‘t’ that is and that depends on how high you are on the “Grammar Hitler” scale.
One thing you can decipher from the online presence of this infant-stage band is their love of Grunge. The genre has seen somewhat of a revival and infusion into much of contemporary underground Alternative Rock in recent years and with ‘Violet Thoughts’, the deliberately subdued but melodic vocals boast this affiliation after an dark but almost Psychedelic Rock leaning intro that has you hook, line and sinker.
Post-Punk and its grandchild Indie can also be heard which takes the band away from the incredulous ( and out dated) habit of simply focusing on Grunge and progressing absolutely no where.
Despite the band’s age in actuality and as a creative unit, from very opening notes you hear nothing but maturity. The youthful play and distaste is obvious and reckless in its own way, but with the band’s attitude and overall sound, you hear such a natural maturity it’s really quite impressive.
‘Bitter’ is just that in its controlled stare into the eyes of someone who clear needs a reality check. It is here that you settle into the Grunge-gloom but are also treated to the discordant but alluring lead guitar that breeds anticipation and disappointment simultaneously.
Disappointment that it’s over.
