Foul-mouthed Falmouth foursome, Bobby Funk, have just released their latest digital release, Piss.

If you’re unfamiliar with the band or their past releases, the links under their pasty above should suffice. However, in a nutshell their sound can be described as: old-school Hardcore Punk, blended with Garage Rock grit, laced with British humour, honest critique and a desire to play whatever the fuck they want too.

I once watched vocalist Ollie Meyrick, change into a belly dancer outfit minutes before opening a Punk festival, because why not? They also wrote a song about stealing Cornish Pasties, Punk isn’t always a serious sound.

\\Piss//

‘We realised fairly early that a few of the songs had piss references in, these were purely accidental but it seemed only right to call the record Piss.’

‘Incoitus Interruptus’ is literally about what you think it is. Live, the track is an absolute banger, thrown forward in true old-school style and the recording is the exact same.

Quirky UK Punk over the top of something almost early Black Flag-esque, supplemented with a tasty Garage Rock glaze. It’s a great opener and the song’s end is just as grabbing, with it’s hard-edged and shrill screams of ‘INCOITUS INTERRUPTUS, INCOITUS DON’T INTERRUPT US‘, it’s full of sweaty Punk club imagery.

Rock n’ Roll Hardcore? That might be the best way to describe track two, and it’s all compressed into 0:57. Another good one live, the track has somewhat of a “dance” appeal to it.

Now, I probably shouldn’t really call it a “dance”, as it’s more an erratic Punk-led flail, or a similar physical reaction to someone who genuinely thought RedBull would give them wings and whose heart and body have now reached Powerviolence-level tempo.

Minor Threat influence manifests itself in track three, which is as interesting as it is a positive. The band on this second EP went into the recording process with every intention of maintaining the raw nature of the first release and live show but at the same time, wanted something “tighter”. It’s safe to say they pulled it off.

‘440ml Of Deceit’ concerns a UK supermarket downsizing alcohol in both volume and strength, a serious matter.  – ‘We want ever-so slightly more beer’

It’s the final track of the EP that makes the real difference. An ambitious move for the band, utilising Spoken Word and a more Post-Punk direction, it concerns one man having argument with his brain after a hard time on the booze. Now, I know how that sounds but the back and forth between man and brain is really quite clever, have a listen.

‘Jesus Christ I had no idea my body’s such a PUSSY!’ – ‘I’M NOT USED TO THIS MIDNIGHT RUNNING AT FULL SPEED!’ – Buy a redbull, chug-it, that’s all you need!’ – ‘I’VE HAD ENOUGH! I’M GOING TO THE DOCTORS ABOUT THIS!’ – ‘Listen, I’m in control, I’ll make you soak yourself in Piss!’
